Basic Site Information
We are going to generate a product installation code ("PIC") for your new site/customer, which can also be considered the software license for that site/customer. The basic information we need is:

Customer Name: Please provide the exact text you wish to have shown as the official name of this A-Shell software license. This name will display on the screen each time A-Shell is started.

Platform: Windows, UNIX, Linux, HPUX, etc. Note that A-Shell prices are not platform-specific.

    Number of nodes

Costs and Options
Following are guidelines for selecting A-Shell options and for pricing the system.

Base Price: After determining how many nodes you will need at your site, use the price list to calculate your cost for the basic A-Shell software. The cost of the basic system is based only on the number of nodes.

Select Options: A-Shell has several optional features that affect the price and the installation code. Determine which of these you wish to purchase. The general rule is that you do NOT need them unless you know for sure that you do.

d/ISAM? If you need support for ISAMPLUS files, add ten percent of the core A-Shell system. PolyShell? If you wish to run multiple A-Shell windows from your UNIX/Linux workstation, add 20 percent of the core A-Shell system. Telnet? For telnet support (ATS), add 20 percent of the core A-Shell price. PDFX? "A-Shell's built-in PDF generator is $250, $500 or $750, depending on the size of your A-Shell system. ATE? The A-Shell Terminal Emulator is $100 per node. See the price list for definitive prices on all these options and add-ons.

Subtotal: Add up the items from above, and that's the price of your software.

Add maintenance: See the price list for maintenance rates and minimum charges, and include them with the total charges.

Additional and Somewhat Redundant Information

New Systems
There are three components to the price of a new A-Shell system:

    Base Price
A-Shell prices are derived from a table of values. When you wish to buy a system for some number of nodes, go to the table and lookup or calculate the price. A three node system, for example, would be calculated as the cost of a one-node system plus two additional nodes. A 30-node system would be a 25-node system, plus five additional nodes at the 25-to-100 node price.

    Options and Add-Ons
A-Shell has various options and add-ons that may affect the cost of your system. The ATS option, for example, is 20% of the cost of the A-Shell base price; ATE is some amount per node, PDFX is a fixed price per system, etc.

    Software Maintenance
To calculate your annual software maintenance charge, which will be charged with the original software, apply the maintenance rate to the subtotal of the base price and all options.

The sum of these three components will be your full charge for the A-Shell system.

Add-On Components
It is quite common for functioning A-Shell sites to add users and/or options after they have been operating for a while. The A-Shell price list gives prices for different "add-on" node quantities, which are purchased in batches of one, five, ten, 25 or 100. Simply determine the number of nodes you wish to add and get the price from the price list. A 10-node add-on pack, for example, is 70% of the new-system cost for a 10-node system.

Note that software maintenance is normally not charged for add-on nodes and modules until the next annual renewal date.
