A-Vue: The Portable VUE-like Editor
A-Shell includes a portable VUE-like editor, sparing you the hassle of having to learn and keep track of different editing commands when switching platforms. Admittedly, A-Vue may not be as powerful as some of
the fancier Windows and UNIX text editors, but it works well for AlphaBASIC source code and text configuration files. It is particularly convenient when first switching to UNIX since the standard UNIX
editor (vi) can be a nightmare for first time users.
Versions
A-Vue comes in three forms:
- VUE.LIT: available from the 'dot' prompt within A-Shell. (requires A-Shell).
- VUE.EXE: the native DOS version. (does not require A-Shell.)
- vue: the native UNIX version (does not require A-Shell but separate binary flavors are required corresponding to the UNIX flavor.
Features
A-Vue is one of the few areas of A-Shell that is not intended to be 100% compatible with the corresponding AMOS feature. 100% compatibility is very important when it comes to executing existing applications,
but it is less important when it comes to text editing. So our policy has been to include the core set of editing functions that everyone uses, and then add additional features on demand. The current set
of features includes:
- All the 'traditional' display mode control commands (^A, ^B, ^D, ...^Z)
- Most of the common command commands: COPY, MOVE, DELETE, PUSH, POP, YANK, UNYANK, SEARCH, REPLACE, GLOBAL, HELP, etc.
- Most of the INI.VUE commands: GO, WRAP, WIDTH, COLUMN, DEFAULT, etc.
- Ability to display and edit control characters
- Some extended editing commands, such as: macro recording and playback & undelete
- Automatic conversion of line terminators (CRLF or LF) to match current host
Pricing
- $25 for one computer at one site
- $150 for ten computers at one site
- $250 for a site license
